Diwali is the festival of lights, kept by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. Homes are cleaned and lit with lamps and candles, doorsteps are decorated, and families share sweets and gifts. Garlands of marigolds are part of the festival in many homes, and their oranges and golds are the colours to lean on.
A bright bunch in orange and gold makes a present for the hosts, and candles in amber glass or honey-coloured wax go on the windowsill beside the lamps.
