What this covers

This statement is about the website at flowerandglory.co.uk, including the shop, the basket and checkout, the flower school bookings, your account, and the pages about us. It also says what we know about getting into and around the shop itself.

Our aim for the website

We want everybody to be able to choose and send flowers from our website without help, whatever device or assistive technology they use. Our aim is for the site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. We are an independent business and not a public body, so that standard is not a legal requirement for us; it is the one we have chosen because it is the one that works.

In practice that means we try to make sure that:

  • every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and where you are on the page is always visible;
  • text can be enlarged to at least twice its size without anything being lost or cut off, and the site works at phone width;
  • pictures of bouquets and products carry a written description, and pictures that are only decoration are marked so a screen reader skips them;
  • colours have enough contrast to read, and colour is never the only way something is shown;
  • forms say what each box is for, say plainly when something has been left out or typed wrongly, and do not time out while you fill them in;
  • moving things stop when you have asked your device for reduced motion, and nothing flashes;
  • headings are real headings, links say where they go, and the language of the page is declared.

Display and reading options

Every page carries a small figure in the header (and a "Display & reading options" link at the foot of the page) that opens a panel of choices for how the site reads for you: larger text (the whole page scales, and your browser's own zoom goes further), more space between lines, words and letters (the spacing the accessibility guidelines name), higher contrast, plain type for headings, every link underlined, and no animation or smooth scrolling. There is also Read this page aloud, which uses your own device's voice to read the page from the top, follows along as it reads, and can be paused or stopped from a small bar at the foot of the page; you can choose the voice and the speed.

These choices are kept on your device only, in your browser's storage, and are never sent to us. "Back to the standard site" clears them. They add to whatever your device already asks for (a device set to reduced motion or higher contrast is respected whether or not you use the panel), and they are not a substitute for a screen reader, which the site is built to work with.

How we test

The site is checked as it is built, with automated tools and by using it with a keyboard and a screen reader. We do not yet have a formal audit by an outside specialist.

What we know is not right yet

If you hit something on the site you cannot use, we will help you complete what you were trying to do by telephone or email at once, and we will add it to this statement.

Ordering another way

You can always order by telephone on 01732 743419 (Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm) or by email to enquiries@flowerandglory.co.uk, and pay over the phone by card. We are happy to describe a bouquet or a product in as much detail as you like, and to send the description in writing.

Third-party services

Card payment online is handled by Stripe, in its card field on our checkout page or on its own page; email newsletters are sent through Resend; texts, only where you have asked for them, through Twilio. We choose these services partly for their accessibility, but we cannot change their pages ourselves. If one of them gives you trouble, tell us and we will find another way.

The shop

Flower & Glory is at 12 Blacks Yard, Blighs Meadow, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 1DS, open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.

  • Assistance dogs are welcome.
  • Quiet time: if you would rather visit when the shop is quiet, ask and we will happily arrange it.

We will always bring flowers out to a car at the door, and we deliver in our own van.

Tell us

If you find a page you cannot use, a picture without a description, or a step into the shop we have not mentioned, please tell us. We will fix what we can, tell you when it is done, and update this statement.
