“trust, innocence and lasting friendship”
A South African native, the freesia was named by botanist Christian Ecklon in honour of his friend, the physician Friedrich Freese, and that is why it has stood for trust and friendship ever since. It is the traditional flower of the seventh wedding anniversary, and its clean, citrus-honey fragrance makes it one of the most recognisable scents in the florist's shop. It is a small stem with a loyal following.
In season, and in the studio
Freesia is in season all year round, so it is in the studio this month. In the studio's bunches it is a secondary flower, the supporting cast that gives a bunch its shape and rhythm around the focal stem. The studio buys it in white, yellow and purple, and at the bench each colour is read for its own meaning.
