Pistache
“freshness and renewal”
Pistache is cut foliage from Pistacia, a Mediterranean cousin of the pistachio tree, and a relative newcomer to British floristry rather than a Victorian classic. Florists have adopted it for its bright, fresh green leaves and gracefully branching stems, and it has come to signify renewal and new growth. It gives arrangements a loose, garden-gathered feel that stiffer foliage cannot match.
In season, and in the studio
Pistache is in season all year round, so it is in the studio this month. In the studio's bunches it is foliage: the frame every bunch is built on, and the green that makes the colours read. The studio buys it in fresh green, and at the bench each colour is read for its own meaning.
