“fidelity and loyalty”
Veronica takes its name from St Veronica, who by tradition wiped Christ's brow on the road to Calvary, and in floriography it is the emblem of fidelity. Its country name, speedwell, comes from an old parting blessing meaning 'fare well', and the flower was once tucked into travellers' coats for luck on a journey. Those slender, tapering spires lend height and movement to a hand-tied bouquet.
In season, and in the studio
Veronica is in season April to September, so it is in the studio this month. In the studio's bunches it is a secondary flower, the supporting cast that gives a bunch its shape and rhythm around the focal stem. The studio buys it in purple, white and pink, and at the bench each colour is read for its own meaning.
