“sincerity, fascination and magic”
Ferns are among the oldest plants on Earth, and in the Victorian language of flowers they came to stand for sincerity, fascination and a touch of magic. Folklore held that fern seed could make you invisible. The variety we use, Asparagus setaceus, is the feathery plumosa fern that Edwardian florists prized for buttonholes and bridal work. Its lace-like fronds have been softening rose bouquets for well over a century.
In season, and in the studio
Fern is in season all year round, so it is in the studio this month. In the studio's bunches it is foliage: the frame every bunch is built on, and the green that makes the colours read. The studio buys it in soft green, and at the bench each colour is read for its own meaning.
